Seuraavaa juttua ei ole mitenkään oikoluettu, joten pahoittelen kieltä. Se kuvailee lyhyesti muutamia loskalmille tyypillisiä instituutioita tai maagisia rakennelmia. Toivon kommentteja ja parannusehdotuksia. Kuvitusta on yhden luistelijan verran, mutta tuollaisesta isosta tuulikelkasta olisi kiva saada kuva.
Famous National Institutions of Loskalm
Ice-skating Guardsmen of Royal Marines
The Ozur Bay is mostly covered by ice during the winter time, and ice skating guardsmen of Royal Marines keep law and order near the coastline of important ports. The Ice skating officers are trained at the Military Skating School of Northpoint to operate during the harsh winter: they check the the coming ships, form a fast message deliver network between coastal towns, and of course fight the possible enemies of the kingdom. Everything is done on their ice-skates. During the summer time, Royal Marines work as marines on the ships. The Guardsmen of Royal Marines are usually equipped with long spears with ice-spike on the other end, shortswords and light or medium (cuirbouilli or similar) armour. All guardsmen have at least common magic related to their profession: spells making floating and water-skating possible and also war magic is common.
Wind-Saddle Fleets of Ozur Bay
Related to the former institution, the kingdom maintains three fleets of large wind-saddles for military and other use. Wind-saddles are used during the winter time to move on the ice by using wind power. The largest saddles are over 50m long, and smallest ones are able to travel with one or two people. The size of the saddle does not slow it down very much, and even the large saddles are capable up to the speed of 50km/h if the wind is optimal. If the winds are not optimal, crew is used to move the ship with ice-spikes and they are aided by wizard’s magic.
The first fleet is specialized to transportation and is in the use of Royal Post Bureau. This fleet transports cargo and people between coast cities. The second fleet is in the use of Royal Coast Infantry, which uses saddles to transport large units of marines and military cargo. The third fleet is specialized to assaults, and saddles belonging to this fleet are smaller and faster than in the other two fleets. There are also many private saddles traveling on the icy surface of Ozur Bay.
Royal Bank of Loskalm
The Royal Bank is a system where citizen can get cash from any office through Loskalm in exchange for official document showing his property held in his local bank office. The system enables citizens to minimize the need to move their property physically, and thus minimizing the possibility of robbery. The bank system is mostly used by merchants and nobles, because common people rarely have need or money to travel such a long distances. The bank offices are strongly guarded; in both magical and military meaning. The system was established by Siglat the Wise and Watchdog Council, and even today the officer of council always leads the local organization.
St. Siglat’s Triangle (Winter Sailingroute of Sog-Northpoint-Southpoint-Sog)
King Siglat the Wise established a sailing route Sog-Northpoint-Southpoint-Sog to make sailing possible between at least some of the most important cities of Loskalm during long winters. Great heroquests made the large magical effect of ice melting possible, and dangerous quest must be performed at every fifth year to maintain it. People call it St. Siglat’s Triangle, because it forms a harsh triangle when drawn on a map. The route goes along the coastlines and triangle is thus not a very good name.
Royal Teleport Bureau of Watchdog Council
Royal Teleport Bureau command the fastest route to move inside the kingdom of Loskalm; teleports placed in a capital of each province. The teleports are focus of great magic obtained through the weekly religious services held all over Loskalm and benefit the highest officers of the loskalmian society. Traveling from place to place through these portals is almost immediate, but only a small group of people can be moved at time. People who go through the portal actually travel the whole trip on the otherworld and thus a large group would be more easily noticed by hostile otherworld beings. Terrible accidents happen rarely where travelers are lost or killed on the otherside, and Knights of the Bureuau must seek and kill the attackers. Teleport network is one of the miracles of Siglat’s Dream.
